MONICK LANZA | PHOTOGRAPHER Since she was 12 years old, this passionate photographer looks beyond her surroundings in a very personal way. From her childhood in Cannes, Monick Lanza has kept the memory of Mediterranean sea sprays, the colours and the lights of the South. Classically trained, she switches from “silver photography” to digital and develops her own style. Established in Canada since 1965, she travels on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. In 2017, Monick Lanza offered us “Montreal…ma ville”. She is coming back to us today with this new exhibition. With “Convergences”, the photographer travels with her camera through the country of her childhood. We discover the blues of the Mediterranean Sea and its treasures, the Massif de l’Esterel, Trayas, Miramar and its red volcanic rocks. She brings us the Garrigue and its perfumes from the Lubéron to Antibes. This time again, the way she perceives things surprises and delights us.

Je me définis comme artiste avant d’être photographe ce qui me permet de raconter des choses d’écrire des choses avec des images, Pour moi la photo est un langage qui s’inscrit dans une écriture photographique. Les images peuvent composer un paysage qui évolue dans l’espace et dans le temps. C’est une manière d’être. Les images que je crée en mélangeant des photos anciennes et des photos plus récentes sont un témoignage mais deviennent progressivement des entités à part entières. From her childhood in Cannes, Monick Lanza has kept the memory of the mediterranean salt spray, the colours and the lights of the South. Established in Canada since 1965, her work has been displayed on both sides of the Atlantic. « I define myself first as an artist, then as photographer. This allows me to write about things, to tell stories through images ». For me, photography is a language that is part of pictorial writing. Images can make up a landscape that evolves in space and time. It is a way of being. The images that I create by mixing old photos and more recent ones are a testimony and gradually become entities in their own right ».
